Carlos Barrera
Renewable Energy CEO Of The Year // LATAM 2024
Carlos (“Ucho”) Barrera is the CEO of Atlas Renewable Energy, one of the largest solar IPPs in the Americas with an asset base of nearly 8.4 GW and an enterprise value exceeding $3 billion. Since leading a successful MBO in 2017 backed by Actis, Barrera has guided Atlas’ rapid growth and, following its 2022 acquisition, positioned the company under the backing of Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), which manages over $84 billion in infrastructure assets worldwide.
Previously, Barrera served as VP & Managing Director of SunEdison Latin America, where he oversaw more than 500 MW of contracted projects and $1 billion in project finance. He also held executive roles across Latin America, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, spearheading solar development and M&A. Earlier in his career, he worked at BP in oil & gas, renewables, and venture capital. Barrera holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and an Executive MBA from Kellogg.
