Meta has received a 1.2 billion euro ($1.3 billion) fine from the privacy regulator in the European Union due to its handling of user information. The company has been given a five month deadline to stop transferring users’ data to the United States.
The fine was issued by Ireland's Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) and was linked to Meta's continued transferring of personal data. Meta’s fine was higher than the previous 746 million euro EU privacy fine by Luxembourg on Amazon.com Inc in 2021, according to a DPC statement.
