Sega to buy Rovio

Japanese games company Sega has confirmed the purchase of Finland’s Rovio in a deal worth €706 million ($775 million).

In January Israeli mobile gaming company Playtika bid €750 million ($810 million) for Rovio, although the deal fell through for unknown reasons.

Rovio expects the deal with Sega to close in Q2 of its current fiscal year, sometime in the next couple of months despite it being subject to “certain customary conditions.”

Sega’s offer is 63.1% premium on Rovio’s closing price on January 19, the last trading date before reports first emerged of a potential acquisition, and a 19% premium on Rovio’s final closing price on Friday, April 14.
